Our History
Christian student movements in the Western world have a rich history dating back to the nineteenth century, transforming countless lives and producing renowned missionaries like C.T. Studd and Jim Elliot. India, too, has seen the impact of student ministries such as UESI, India Campus Crusade, and the Student Christian Movement. However, with India's vast student population of 350 million, the existing movements are insufficient to address the moral and spiritual needs of all. This realization led to the formation of the Inter Collegiate Prayer Fellowship (ICPF), driven by a vision to reach the unreached millions of students globally.
ICPF distinguishes itself by its commitment to the Full Gospel of Jesus Christ, guided by the Holy Spirit. It occupies a unique space within the student community and actively seeks collaboration with organizations of similar faith and vision, striving to reach every student with the Gospel.
ICPF's story began in 1972 with Prof. Mathew P. Thomas, who started a small student prayer group at his home near Marthoma College, Thiruvalla, where he taught Chemistry. This led to the first "Inter Collegiate Prayer Fellowship" retreat for Kerala University students on November 8, 1972, at Marthoma College Thiruvalla. From 1973 to 1979, annual student camps were held at Charalkunnu, Kerala, during Puja holidays.
